Memory of addiction

The memory of addiction

This short story brings in closure, again....

The memory of addiction

Kitsilano. Such a beautiful place to live. Friendly people, coffee shops. The ocean not far down from 4th Ave. You can see glimpses of the beach as you walk past different sized condos mixed in with the houses still in their original form from 50 years ago. Well maintained and manicured.
These are some of the pleasant memories I have of living in the Kitsilano area. Brought forth to me easily as I put up flyers on streetlight posts advertising my friends moving company.
Everything is seen from a completely different perspective now, as I live my life free from drug addiction. 14 months clean. Ya!
As I put up another flyer, I look down a familiar alley. Oh yeah....I remember this alley....one of the many that my partner and I would travel down in the never ending search for bottles.
Perferably 2L's and plastic (because they're lighter). There were 2 kinds of hits that I and my boyfriend loved. The first and by far the best was a hit of heroin, the second was a hit of about 20 or 30 dollars worth of beer cans that somebody had just left in the ally and were meant for me and Steve. To us at the time, it was a godsend. We were the only ones meant to find this gift. Me and Steve the 'gift' along with our other 'treasures' would than proceed to find the shortest distance between us and the liquor store so we could 'liquidate' our bottles into cash and continue on our journey of the never ending search for hits.
Once the connection was made with the dealer, we would head back to one of our preferred places to fix. Usually a condo with a stairwell heading down into their parking lot. Never a busy place plus good access to clean water from the garden tap.
Fixing drugs: A very strong memory of addiction. It can also be a dangerous one. It depends on your perception at the time of the thought. Its kind of ironic though that something as unhealthy and with such dire consequences as fixing drugs in an ally way can also be incredibly seductive.
But not today. I look at the women of my past in my memory and thank God for my sobriety. How many years had I lived like that? Far to many and yet not enough to kill me.
My life today is so totally different. A life I could only dream of as an addict. Completely unattainable or so I thought. I found the silver lining in my cloud.

Knock-off wands? Whats the real thing?

Maybe I'm a little cynical, but I've noticed that every time there is a really good breakthrough on the health front, a whole bunch of useless knock-off products come on the market. Some of the original products were never effective in the first place but a whole litany of other useless products comes out of the wood work.

The most recent example is a health juice that has been on the market in an MLM structure for at least the last ten years. CBC Marketplace did an expose on it and showed that there were no health benefits to it whatsoever. The fruit from which the juice was derived, was foul tasting and the local people wouldn't even eat it. The juice had to be altered so that it was drinkable and the only benefit was in the skin, which was left out. Then in recent years, a whole bunch of knock-off juices came on the market that were cheaper - and the dragon hatched. This happens quite regularly in the health industry. This is what gives the industry a bad name.

Before I manufacture or endorse any product, I test, test and retest it. My reputation as a health practitioner demands that I be in integrity with everything I present to my clients and the world. Don't get me wrong, I have come across some amazing products that I have no trouble recommending to those to whom I feel it would be a benefit. It's not about the money, it's about health restoration and improvement. I see some tough cases in my practice and there is a great joy in restoring the help and hope in someone who has been given a chronic or degenerative diagnosis. A second chance doesn't come by every day.

I've been doing a lot of research. I study a lot. As a result of this I have been looking at alternatives to the supplement and medication industry to alleviate pain. What I discovered is amazing. It seems that the Chinese, Japanese and the Russians have years ahead of us in certain types of technologies. The one that comes to mind is zero-point technologies.

Innovative Ionizing Technologies has a whole team of experts who have decided to pump up the volume on a product they have designed and marketed. The Original Iyashi Wand is an instrument that looks like a pen but uses electromagnetic, piezoelectric, infrared, zero -point and scalar wave technology to reduce and eliminate pain. It also improves countless conditions as reported in studies. One of the awesome benefits of pointing the wand at your pillow at night is the awesome sleep you have. Since there have been a rise in recent months of similar technologies, there is now a need to bring the Original Iyashi wand to the surface.

We've double-blind tested the knock-offs out there and there is no comparison in effectiveness, and pain relief. My caution to you is, we have 30 years research and field development behind us and we see what is going on in the industry. Don't be fooled by cheap prices or promises. We have the Original Iyashi Wand. We know it works. We have certified and tested every single one of them. We have field tested the Original Iyashi Wand and the knock-offs with clients with various conditions. Besides our prices are better than the MLM bunch and the cheap knock-off are not as powerful or as effective as our wand. Do yourself a favor and do the research. If you are in pain, be sure to get a wand that is effective and reputable. It's interesting how people try to copy the best. It's too bad they don't succeed.

Cold water massage therapy

. The practice of taking cold showers in the morning is extraordinarily revitalizing and has been used therapeutically all over the world for thousands of years.
Gurudev Khar Khalsa, a Sat Nam Rasayan healer and Kundalini Yoga teacher in Los Angeles sent us this information on the healing power of cold showers.
"Cold Water Massage Therapy is the one of the healthiest and inexpensive of therapies. Simply massage the body with almond oil before taking a shower. Shower in cold water until your body temperature rises and no longer feels cold, but toasty and warm. Make sure the bathroom is heated. Never get out of a cold shower into a cold room.
*** Please note: Cold showers should not be taken during a women's time of menstruation. A woman needs extra rest and gentleness during her menses. Taking a cold shower is too much for the reproductive system during menstruation. A lukewarm shower is recommended. Generally speaking, hot showers are not good as they tend to depress the various physiological systems of the body.
Cold showers have the following positive effects:
* Brings blood to the capillaries, therefore increasing circulation throughout the body.
* Cleans the circulatory system.
* Reduces blood pressure on internal organs.
* Provides flushing for the organs and provides a new supply of blood.
* Strengthens the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems.
* Contracts the muscles to eliminate toxins and poisonous wastes.
* Strengthens the mucous membranes, which help resist hay fever, allergies, colds, coughs.
Many health problems are reduced or even eliminated over time by providing proper circulation of the blood to the affected area using the cold shower massage.
"Ishnan" is the term used in the old days when people in India referred to cold showers (very cold showers). "Ishnan" is the point at which the body, by its own virtue, creates the temperature that it can beat off the coldness of the water. This happens when the capillaries open with the onset of the cold water. They close again during the course of the cold shower and it is at that point that all the blood rushes back to flush the organs and the glands. This process allows the glands to renew their secretions and "youth" (i.e. young glands) again returns to the body."

Peace or happiness. Which would you prefer?

There is a really big difference between being happy and being in a state of inner peace. People often confuse the two but they are quite different. Happiness is a temporary reaction to what is going on in the moment and inner peace can become that unshakable stillness that remains within no matter what happens.

When something goes right, your mind judges it and analyses it, agrees that it is right and so you are happy. You have got your way. When something goes wrong you also judge and analyze it but you become unhappy and dissatisfied because life didn't bring you what you want. Life becomes a miserable place with miserable things in it.

Happiness is that temporary fix, that shallow place that comes from getting stuff, attaining position, and acquiring comfort. When the novelty wears off, you want more to get the next happiness fix. You go from getting, getting more and getting more but you are ultimately never satisfied with what is.

On the other hand, when you can go inside and sweep a little place clean and create peace there, you can sit quite comfortably there permanently. Some people have done exactly that. They can have a truly miserable experience, yet remain seated in inner peace. Food poisoning can't shake them from that inner peace. Neither can the death of a loved one. Nor can a car accident. That inner peace remains unshakable. There is a very deep knowing that says this too shall pass. It is only temporary.

In this person's life there is an acceptance of what is and the lesson that accompanies it. There is a knowing that what is being experienced is perfect right now. There is no need to get and get more. Inner peace is that place that doesn't define itself with what is outside. The drama king or queen has no place to emerge from. All there is, is stillness.

Becoming peaceful inside comes from the knowing that you are an eternal being that is not defined by what you have or who you are. It is defined by that unchanging and unchangeable place in which you reside inside. It's finding that place amid all the rubbish, belief systems, judgments, opinions, defenses, karma, objections, and inappropriate actions and remaining unfailingly in that place.

From that place, happiness will fall away and be replaced by joy, love, intimacy and bliss. Now the part of you that wanted all those things is no longer and what is, is just perfect right now.
